Department Overview
The Research and Policy department is central to W2A, providing crucial insights, program design support, and strategic guidance both internally and externally. The department plays a pivotal role in engaging with foreign investors, traders, donors, and government agencies, offering data and research to enhance informed decision-making and strategic initiatives.
Job Summary
The Head of Research and Policy Lead will oversee the Research and Policy department, ensuring the delivery of high-quality research, strategic policy recommendations, and data-driven insights. This role involves managing a team of researchers and policy analysts, developing research proposals, and liaising with key stakeholders to support W2A's mission and objectives.
Key responsibilities
1. Leadership and Management

Lead and manage the Research and Policy department, ensuring alignment with W2A's strategic goals.

Oversee the development and implementation of research projects, policy analysis, and strategic initiatives.

Mentor and guide a team of researchers and analysts, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.
2. Research and Analysis

Design and conduct comprehensive research on key sectors (Energy, Solid Minerals, Agribusiness, Maritime) to provide actionable insights.

Develop research proposals, methodologies, and frameworks to support data-driven decision-making.

Ensure the accuracy, relevance, and timeliness of research outputs.
3. Policy Development

Analyze and evaluate policy trends, regulatory changes, and market dynamics affecting W2A's focus sectors.

Provide strategic policy recommendations to support W2A's advocacy efforts and engagement with stakeholders.

Collaborate with government agencies, industry bodies, and international organizations to influence policy decisions.
4. Stakeholder Engagement

Build and maintain relationships with foreign investors, donors, government agencies, and other key stakeholders.

Present research findings, policy recommendations, and strategic insights to internal and external audiences.

Represent W2A at conferences, seminars, and industry events.
5. Revenue Generation

Identify and pursue opportunities to monetize research outputs through reports, consultancy services, and grant applications.

Develop and manage a pipeline of research and consultancy clients, ensuring the achievement of revenue targets.
Key Qualifications

Advanced degree in Economics, Public Policy, International Relations, or a related field.

Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in research, policy analysis, or a related field, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.

Strong understanding of the investment and trade landscape in Africa, particularly in Nigeria.

Proven track record of managing research projects, developing policy recommendations, and engaging with stakeholders.

Excellent analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills.

Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex information to diverse audiences.

Ability to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
